1868 letter on United States Senate Chamber letterhead from Washington DC, written and signed by John Milton Thayer (1820-1906), a politician and civil war general. He was US senator from Nebraska 1867-71, governor of Wyoming Territory 1875-78, and governor of Nebraska 1887-1892. He resigned an earlier seat in Nebraska's territorial legislature to accept a commission as colonel of the 1st Nebraska; he was promoted to brigadier general in October 1862. Letter to General William E. Strong, informing him that Thayer will be unable to attend a reunion of army officers in Chicago.This material comes from the Civil War autograph, manuscript and document collection formed by Frederick Peck and is guaranteed original and genuine.
