    Description

    1885 ALS of James R. O'Beirne (1844-1917), a brevet brigadier general in the Civil War who was awarded the Medal of Honor for service at Fair Oaks as a captain in the 37th New York.  Letter is mounted to album page at left, and is addressed to Jos. Carr as NY secretary of state, on letterhead of the Continental Hotel at Philadelphia and discusses not being able to see him in person.  Interesting item.
