    1887 short note on New York Police Department Commissioner's office letterhead, signed by Fitz John Porter (a major general in the civil war famed for being court martialed after Second Bull Run (he was later exonerated).  1845 WP grad; led the 5th corps.  Note is addressed to another general; mounted to album page.
