This was the very first year for the post war Advance design Chevrolet truck, and when they ordered this one, they did it right - it has the sought after 5 window cab, and also the deluxe cab trim package, which is the chrome trim around the windows.  No heated seats or air conditioning - this was about as fancy as you could get.
This truck would have came equipped with the Chevy 216 engine, which was O.K. for the time, but the bottom end was splash lubricated (think old Briggs and statton push mower) and would not handle abuse and especially didn't like high R.P.M's.  So- when the engine came apart and sent a rod through the block - you had a couple of choices find another 216 or try to find a GMC engine.  The GMC engines were a full pressure lube system and a much better, more durable engine.  The 2 common GMC engines were the 228 and 248, both of which were good.  There was also the larger and more powerful, but harder to find 270 - which is what is under the hood of this old girl.
I traveled about 60 miles to pick this one up, I told the farmer that I had a winch on my trailer, so if it didn't start - no big deal.  This actually offended him, and said he wouldn't sell it if it wouldn't run and drive - so when I got there he is trying to start it, and of course it won't.  I said no problem, I will fix it when I get home - Nope!  I spent most of the day waiting while he went to every parts store in the county before he finally found a fuel pump.  He had the biggest smile on his face when it fired up and drove on my trailer.  No way was I going to use my winch on his farm!  Anyway - it's interesting to see how people think and he was obviously proud of his old '47.
So - this truck is very solid overall, good cab corners, just a little rust in floors as shown in pics and video.  The engine runs great, sounds good, good oil pressure, no smoke, etc.  The transmission shifts like it should.  The brakes work, it even has power brakes! But they need bled and you have to add fluid occasionally.  The PTO driven dump bed works great, it will dump whatever you put it in it, very handy.  There are numerous dings and scratches from spending its life on the farm - but it is a good, solid, truck that shows nicely for being nearly 80 years old.
Please note - this truck has sat for many years and as such will need a thorough going over before it is "daily driver" material - fluids, belts, lights, brakes, etc. all need checked over, but the important parts are all solid.  Please call or text Cort with any questions 620 786 5172 - I love to talk about old trucks.  This will haul nicely on a trailer (I use an 18ft bumper pull and a 3/4 ton pickup) and I am fine with it setting here as long as you need to arrange transport - as long as it's paid for. And please read my feedback from lots of old trucks, no disappointments. Thanks, and good luck!
